Learn to taste, describe and evaluate your coffee with our SCA Sensory Foundation course. Ideal for professionals who want to develop and formalize their skills or coffee enthusiasts who want to get more from their coffee. In this course you’ll learn to identify and describe the flavors, aromas, body, sweetness, and acidity found in specialty coffees. 

Through guided tastings and hands-on training you will learn how to set up a coffee cupping to the SCA standard and learn how to identify quality in coffee

On this course you will learn:

  • Identify different flavors and aromas found in specialty coffee.
  • Describe and recognize key attributes of coffee, such as body, sweetness, and acidity.
  • Set up a coffee cupping according to the SCA Cupping Protocol.
  • Implement sensory evaluation techniques.

A written exam tests intermediate course knowledge while a practical exam assesses the learner’s ability to identify basic differences in coffee attributes and recall fragrance identification.

For SCA course students will need a SCA account and a SCA leaner number. If you’re not already registered with the SCA, you can register as a learner for free here.
