What’s the story?

The Finca Sol Mañana programme run by Agricafe, one of the leading lights in the speciality coffee industry of Bolivia. The programme is an extensive one focussed on sustainability and quality. Small holders enrolled within the programme receive seven years of training from seed to finished goods. The dedication and commitment to ensuring quality of coffee increases means that farmers can drastically improve their lives in such a way that their future is much more secure.

The primary note of this coffee is a verdant and unctuous plum jam sweetness. Rich and decadent, this level of sugar will make some excellent espresso! A wonderfully complex dried mango acidity adds another layer to the profile, giving a counterpoint to the intense sweetness. All of this is wrapped in a wonderful foil of silky butteriness. All in all just a joyous coffee drinking experience that shouldn’t be missed.

Bolivia is a fascinating coffee producing nation. 95% of the production of the country is focussed in the Yungas region. Coffee production has been part of the culture and way of life in these areas of Bolivia since the 18th century. Traditionally consumed all internally Bolivia has never had a huge coffee output in the global context. The 1920’s saw larger scale cultivation occur and exports become more commonplace. We know in our end of the industry yield is not everything however, quality is what matters most. The governmental change of the 1950’s saw reforms meaning indigenous families taking back their traditional lands and taking ownership of their own farms. The future of coffee in Bolivia looks brighter than ever, with various programmes implemented across the country to improve quality and yields. We are very excited to see how these unfold over the coming years, most importantly we are excited to see how the coffees from this wonderful country taste over those years!

The Fincas Los Rodriguez journey began 35 years ago when founder and former banker Pedro Rodriguez pursued his passion in coffee. Initially starting out as a commercial enterprise, Pedro went on to become one of the pioneers of specialty coffee in Bolivia. Pedro owns and operates an export company called Agricafe with his daughter Daniela and son Pedro Pablo. In order to grow volumes, in 2012 Agricafe acquired land in Caranavi, Los Yungas with their dream of starting their own farm, Finca La Linda. They now own a total of 12 farms, eight in Caranavi and four in Samaipata.
